ACCRA SET FOR TITANIC CLASH AS CONTINENTAL GIANTS READY ARMS FOR 2026 SHOWDOWN

ACCRA, GHANA – The rhythmic thud of palms meeting the table is echoing across the continent as Africa’s Armwrestling heavyweights intensify their preparations for the 15th African Armwrestling Championship.

Scheduled to take place in Accra from April 29 to May 3, 2026, the event—dubbed “Accra 2026″—is shaping up to be the most competitive in the sport’s history. With the stakes raised by its status as the primary qualifier for the 2027 African Games in Egypt, the continent’s elite “pullers” are leaving nothing to chance.

Powerhouses Egypt and South Africa are reportedly assembling formidable squads. Egypt, looking to secure dominance before hosting the 2027 Games, is bringing a team of about 30 athletes. Meanwhile, South Africa’s “Proteas” are signaling a massive resurgence, focusing on their historically dominant heavyweight and master divisions.

However, they won’t be alone at the table. Host nation Ghana and their perennial rivals Nigeria are locked in a high-stakes arms race. The Ghanaian “Golden Arms” are in intensive residential training to defend their home turf, while Nigeria aims to maintain its status as the overall continental king.

The 2026 championship sees an unprecedented level of preparation from across all regions. From the coastal gyms of West Africa to the highlands of the East, national federations are in high gear as West African giants Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Niger, and Sierra Leone are all conducting national trials to select their most explosive pullers.

Heavy-hitters from Cameroon, Central Africa (CAR), and Burundi are expected to bring raw power to the middleweight categories as Madagascar is sending a technically proficient squad, with Mauritius looking to cause major upsets against the traditional top seed.

The President of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA), Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, expressed his excitement at the diversity of the participating nations. “We are expecting nearly 400 athletes from about 25 countries. When nations like Benin, Cameroon, and Togo emerge as serious challengers, it elevates the entire tournament. Every grip in Accra will determine who represents Africa in 2027.”
The 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship is slated fro April 29 to May 3, 2026 in Accra, Ghana.

As the countdown continues, the sporting world turns its eyes to Accra. With Egypt’s technical precision, South Africa’s brute force, and the rising hunger of nations like Burkina Faso and Guinea heading for a collision course, “Accra 2026” promises to be a masterclass in power, passion, and continental pride.
