Mr Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA), will visit Egypt from March 06 to inspect facilities earmarked for Africa’s maiden hosting of the World Armwrestling Championship (WAC) in 2024.
He would be joined by President of the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF), Mr Assen Hadjitodorov and WAF Secretary General, Mr. Mircea Simionescu-Simicel.
Egypt is being considered for the right to host the event after AFA President Mr Osei Asibey won the continental leadership and made a case for Africa to have its turn to host the world event.
The 2024 championship will be the 44th edition of the championship which is expected to bring together over 1500 athletes and officials from all over the world.
While in Egypt, the Armwrestling leadership is expected to hold talks with the Egyptian Sports Minister, President of the Egypt Olympic Committee and the President of Association of African Sports Confederations, Gen Ahmed Nasser Mustafa Kamal Mohamed.
World Armwrestling Championships is the main Armwrestling championship in the World. It is organized by the World Armwrestling Federation, founded in 1977.
The first WAF World Armwrestling was hosted by John Miazdzyk in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada in 1979.
Turkey hosted the 2022 edition in Antalya and was won by Georgi Tsvetkov from Bulgaria in the right arm event and Alizhan Muratov from Kazakhstan in the left arm event.
